I've been a puppeteer, soft sculpture artist, editorial illustrator, children's book author and illustrator, and painter, but for 45 years, my art has always been about two things: character and narrative. I am drawn to human expression, experiences, and tales that are told, either in word or gesture. My work has always been a form of story telling in one form or another, conveyed by the figure, sometimes more direct and at other times subtle and suggestive.
I studied puppetry in New York under Bill Baird and painting and printmaking at SUNY Buffalo. My work has been shown in galleries since 1975, and my illustrations have been published in periodicals and books since 1982. Currently I spend 100% of my time painting.
