Transforming: Street Objects from Your Street to Main Street

Found and/or Transformed: Reimagining the Streets

 International Juried Art Exhibition NYC

November 24–December 22, 2015

What if we could reimagine or transform everyday objects into something remarkable and different, even if only for a brief moment?

We invite artists to submit images of found or created temporary outdoor sculptures made with objects on the streets of their own communities. By witnessing and documenting through the camera lens, these images present the everyday in a new conceptual light. Original objects privately owned or city sanctioned may not be damaged or permanently altered in any way and must be left in original condition.

Please submit your work as A4 or (8.5”x11”) or A3 (11”x17”) digital print.

In August 2014, Independent Curator Kimberly Marrero presented her project Transforming NYC Street Objects which invited New Yorkers the rare opportunity to transform their local communities into a formal work of art. The call resulted in thousands of submissions. New Yorkers responded with brilliant compositions using NYC as their backdrop. Due to its great success the curator and Site:Brooklyn are now taking this project global. We are inviting a broader audience to transform their own communities into a work of art.

GENERATIONS: 40 HUES BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITE

Curators: Dinh Q. Le and Stephen Anderson

Exhibition Dates: December 5 - 19, 2015

Venues: OCCCA and VAALA Cultural Center

 www.occca.org and www.vaala.org

About the theme:

This year marks the fortieth anniversary of the beginning of the exodus of over a million Vietnamese people to other countries for political, economic, and other reasons following the end of the Vietnam conflict. For some, the irrevocable changes that accompanied the conflict’s end resulted in the loss of a way of life. For others, it ushered in new beginnings. And for many, both were equally true.

This exhibition aims to present a survey of the thematic concerns of artists of Vietnamese heritage AND artists inspired by Vietnam over the past forty years. Themes such as change, displacement, identity, and memory are particularly relevant. By presenting many “hues” of artworks, we hope to express the multiplicity of generations of artists and viewpoints, and to counter black-or-white, good-or-bad judgment and politics. Works of art produced in any media since 1975 will be considered.
