Experimentation is the key to my creative process. I create beautiful metal and hand fired glass wall pieces for residential and corporate settings. I work with a variety of sheet metals--Copper, Stainless Steel, Brass, Steel--and my own patina mixtures to create one-of-a-kind surface patterns on these metals. I then combine hand cut copper pieces with fine mesh ground enamel glass, which I fire in a glass furnace in my studio. The 1500 degree direct firing process is experimential, exciting, and not meant to be "perfect", as the glass fuses to the copper. I have developed my own compositions and working process to produce large scale, light weight, original metal and glass pieces adhered to a wooden panel with a 1.5 inch depth edge. When installed my pieces may appear to reference architecture or landscapes, and emit a strong yet elegant quality.
My work has been shown and sold in numerous exhibits and galleries--NYC, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston--to corporations and private collectors. To view images of installations; my professional resume; and current Instagram posts go to my web page: pamsteelestudio.com
