I am a full-time painter of landscapes, interiors and botanical details, with a BFA in painting from the University of Michigan School of Art and additional study at Slade School of Art in London, Oxbow School of Art (Art Institute of Chicago) and at numerous workshops and classes.
My work is primarily oil on canvas and is included in corporate, healthcare, public and private collections nationwide and in Canada, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Ross School of Business at The University of Michigan, Henry Ford Hospital System, and Compuware Inc.
My paintings often start with small plein air sketches. Back in the studio, I use the sketches as jumping off points for larger work. My aim is always to retain my connection to the environment (earth, sky, water, weather, time of day) but to simplify and distill specific details into compositions of shape and color that still evoke connection to a recognizable world. As I work, each painting may develop a mind of its own, sometimes leading me to a different landscape from the one in which I started. This process is endlessly fascinating and surprising.
