My name is Uliana Todoro and I am an artist painter.
I was born 12 December 1954 in Karlovo, Bulgaria.
I was lucky to grow up in a environment with art. My mother was the organizer of cultural events, including meetings with the artists creating in different disciplines - in the field of cinema as well as music, poetry, painting and sculpture. From a young age I related to color in a special way as is shown in my paintings. My parents encouraged me to continue my pursuit and explore my talent. Between 1969-1973 I graduated from art school in Troyan, and then, between 1976-1981 studied at the Sofia Academy of Fine Arts, where I received a diploma. My first solo exhibition was shortly after graduating in 1982, in the town of Haskovo. This was followed by other solo exhibitions with ceramics and paintings in the major cities of Bulgaria.
After 1990, I went to Italy, where I lived until 2009. This country changed my aesthetic, as well as my philosophical view, and has become my second spiritual home. There, my compositions became more refined and synthesized. I created my own style of painting in an oil technique which has continued to improve to date. I apply my color in a very thin layer to make the surface more smooth. This technique is based on the ancient Chinese painting technique.
However I use two techniques of painting as well. With dry pastels I get subtle forms and shades. I also, paint with watercolours which is another method requiring a different thinking process which I enjoy, This process allows more freedom in mixing colors. With this technique, my work has become freely improvisational and almost always I am able to create new compositions with surprising results.
My art is the culmination of joy, music, color, poetry and the rise of the human soul.
During these 20 years I have participated in international art fairs, have had numerous solo and group exhibitions. Below are listed the most important once for years and places.
