Durand Seay

Montgomery, Alabama

As a 60 year old deep-south Alabama artist, I seeks the escape from traditions that label artists by location. I’m also an architect who embraces movement within space, therein, time is an essential factor. My process is influenced by structures found in nature. The paintings engage a plastic and unpredictable expression. There is a language with a quantum perspective, past, present, and future all at once, like the ever changing fluidity of waves in a stream. The themes are symbols to harness a viewer’s subconscious to instill awareness, insight, achievement and the ascendancy of understanding. Allow me to embrace you with light, energy and the emotions of freedom.

My work has been exhibited in numerous juried exhibitions all over the southeast since 1978, and in 2012 “B-12” Wiregrass Museum Biennial, Dothan, Alabama and in 2009 “Imaginary Journeys”, Trevisan Arte Internationale invitational exhibition, Ferarra, Italy.
